Public office should not be used for enrichment

Members of Congress should not be allowed to trade stocks while in office. Period. And the same rules should apply to the Executive and Judicial branches.

The Trump administration has built a culture where corruption is commonplace. They are working for themselves and their donors – awarding billions of dollars in lucrative government contracts and giving huge tax breaks to corporations and their billionaire friends while making large and harmful cuts to programs that help the vulnerable.

You deserve better. The government should work for the people. And as Democrats, we have more work to do to restore voters' trust in their representatives.

It's in everyone's best interest to bring back integrity, confidence, and accountability.

I am ready to vote yes on legislation that bans members of Congress from trading individual stocks, but the legislation should also include a ban on the Executive branch – Trump and his administration – and the Judicial branch from trading individual stocks.

A new report shows that Trump has made tens of thousands of trades while in office – all while supporting legislation that would exempt him from these stock trading bans.

Congress owes it to the American people to create a transparent, accountable government that serves the interests of the people.
