I will not raise healthcare costs to fund tax cuts for billionaires

I'm ready to pass a bipartisan budget – but I won't vote against working people.

Republicans hold the White House and are in the majority in the House and Senate. The government shutdown is on them, and it's hurting Oregonians and families across the country. Costs are already high and too many are struggling to put food on the table and get by. Housing is expensive, and so are child care and utility bills.

And now, millions of Americans face losing their healthcare, and many more will see their insurance premiums skyrocket. That is what the Republican budget would do, which is why I won't support a bill that locks in those cuts and cost increases.

This is a failure to govern by the Republican majority – and another example of putting tax cuts for billionaires before the people we represent.

I'm ready to pass a responsible, bipartisan funding bill that respects Oregonians and people across the country, but I will not vote for a budget that will drastically raise healthcare costs.
