we know how to save our children

Every year, more than 7,000 children and teens are shot in the United States. Many lose their lives.

What we must recognize is that these deaths are preventable.

Two years ago in Parkland Florida, in a scene that's become all too familiar in our children's lives, we lost 17 students and teachers in a yet another heartless school shooting. Their friends and family still grieve, and we grieve with them.

This is a public health crisis. A crisis that our movement has the power to stop. And even in the face of the NRA's opposition, we're making progress.

In 2018, Oregon closed the "boyfriend" loophole, so abusive partners and stalkers can no longer legally purchase a gun. Last year, with the Democrats back in control of the House of Representatives, we finally passed a universal background check bill on all gun sales. This year, we'll continue the fight for bold solutions that will keep our children safe.

Let's make sure we never forget what happened in Parkland two years ago. We must do more. By getting the universal background check bill through the Senate. By limiting gun magazine sizes. By reinstating the ban on military-style assault weapons. And by funding gun violence research.

This is a responsibility we must meet – for our children and our communities. Let's do all we can so we don't have another mass school shooting in our nation again.
