The Trump administration seems to be looking for opportunities to jeopardize the future of our planet. The latest? They're trying to roll back California's vehicle emissions standards.

These standards have become a legislative best practice. Other states across the country, including Oregon, have adopted them. Because of these standards, there are more fuel-efficient vehicles with lower carbon emissions nationwide.

Rolling back vehicle emission standards will cause a serious increase in carbon emissions in our atmosphere, which will:

  • Accelerate the climate crisis;

  • Introduce more pollutants and carcinogens to the air we breathe;

  • Increase the risk of chronic illnesses like cardiovascular disease and asthma, which are especially problematic among young kids, communities of color, and other vulnerable populations; and

  • Undermine the fuel economy standard, costing consumers billions of dollars.

I've cosponsored a petition to stop this, and I hope you'll join me in telling Trump: Stop attacking auto emissions standards.

Trump consistently ignores the gravity of the climate crisis and fails to uphold the EPA's responsibility under the Clean Air Act to protect public health and the environment.

As a member of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, I will continue to work with my colleagues to develop meaningful and bold policies to act on climate and protect our planet for future generations.
