Families Belong Together.

When a young child is separated from loving parents and held in government custody, the wounds of trauma are deepened every day.

Despite court-ordered deadlines, the Trump administration is doing an abysmal job of reuniting children with their parents. Make no mistake – President Trump and Attorney General Sessions put this "zero tolerance policy" in place. They made the choice to tear these children away from their families.

As a mom, I am outraged at a policy that rips innocent children out of the arms of their parents. As an American, I condemn this administration's cold-hearted and inhumane treatment of people seeking asylum to escape from unthinkable violence or abject poverty. And as an elected official, I will never stop fighting for these children.

My grandparents crossed an ocean seeking a better life for their children in the United States of America. That's what we stand for in this country: a better life, a peaceful life.

The Trump administration deliberately created this mess when they instituted their separation policy. It's time for them to reunite families. Not later. Now.
