This is not just about bathrooms

by Suzanne Bonamici

You’ve probably heard that Donald Trump reversed President Obama’s executive order protecting transgender students who use the bathroom matching their gender identity. But don’t be fooled: civil rights in the 1960s wasn’t about water fountains, and this is not about bathrooms.

This is about discrimination, and it threatens the safety of transgender and gender non-conforming students and their ability to succeed in school.

We cannot diminish the critical role that federal policy plays in protecting the civil rights of all students. As a leader on the Education & Workforce Committee, I’m working to protect equal access to a world-class public education for every child in our country.

Discrimination against transgender students is wrong, and it sends the wrong message to all students. Together we can stand up for equal access to education for every child. Let’s raise our voices and fight back.

Please donate today and let’s keep up the resistance to attacks on equality and our public school system!

Thank you for standing with me.
