It takes more than an apple a day
Many parents work long hours to provide for their families – but sometimes it’s still not enough. As a mom, it breaks my heart to know that there are children who come home from school or daycare to an empty refrigerator.
Kids are happier, healthier, and ready to learn when they eat three good meals a day.
It is unacceptable, especially in the United States, for any child to go to school or to sleep hungry.
In Congress, I'm focused on finding a solution to food insecurity so children in America get the nutrition they need to learn and grow.
A federal nutrition program currently helps to make sure kids in child care, Head Start programs, shelters, or after school programs have access to meals, but it only covers two meals per day.
When kids spend more than eight hours at school or in child care, they’re hungry – and many don’t always know when they’ll get their next meal.
My bipartisan proposal, the Early Childhood Nutrition Improvement Act, would make sure more kids are served nutritious meals at their child care centers, and it simplifies the program for child care providers. This means more healthy children and less red tape.
Thank you for standing with me on this critical issue.
